Iquitos. Today, Tuesday July 10, 2018, the Regional Council of the Regional Government of Loreto approved by majority the Regional Ordinance No. 021-GRL-CR, which declares the conservation of biological diversity and cultural values of the Tapiche Blanco interfluvium of regional interest, which It covers an area of 274 738 ha 55 m2, located in the Alto Tapiche, Soplín Cuinga and Tapiche districts, belonging to the province of Requena, in the Loreto region.

This ordinance will guarantee the conservation of biological diversity and ecosystems of forests on white sand and forests on the mainland; as well as the vegetation that grows on peat bogs, such as the varillales and chamizales, which includes a complex system of wetlands that make the Tapiche Blanco interfluvium one of the largest carbon reserves in Peru.

Likewise, it represents an important link in the biological corridor that connects the Reserved Zone and the Sierra del Divisor Park with the Matsés National Reserve. Local populations will also benefit through the conservation and recovery of their forests.
