On August 17, the Center for the Development of the Amazonian Indigenous (CEDIA) provided its support during the Extraordinary Congress for the new election of the Board of Directors of the Secoya Indigenous Organization of Peru (OISPE), whose registration will later be formalized in Registries. Public. OISPE was established in 2005 and is a representative organization of the Secoya people and seeks to defend the rights of all Secoya communities.
In addition, on August 18 and 19, CEDIA was invited to participate in the Annual Congress of the Secoya Indigenous Organization of Peru (OISPE) to present the Expansion Project of the Airo Pai Communal Reserve for the Protection and Sustainable Conservation of the Complex of ANPs of Güeppí - Peru ”, financed by the cooperative Rainforest Trust.
The project spans from the Putumayo River and the Napo River in Loreto. Its main beneficiaries are the Sequoia communities that live in that area; It started in August 2016 and will culminate in July 2020.
It focuses on four lines of work: territory, strengthening of OISPE and workshops with the communities, support for the development of life plans, support for the management of ANP -direct work with the Executor of the Siekopai Administration Contract. Likewise, CEDIA has committed to supporting the preparation of the 2018-2022 Master Plan for the Airo Pai Communal Reserve and supporting its implementation.
The project will also seek the development of management plans - sustainable economic activities. Activities are currently being developed to close the first year of execution; In addition, a diagnosis of the use and management of natural resources is being carried out, visiting the communities to, based on this, propose new management plans or strengthen existing ones.
