Iquitos. With much regret, we report the death of Cristian Gonzales Tanchiva, who served as head of the Pucacuro National Reserve, in Loreto. Cristian Gonzales studied biology at the National University of the Peruvian Amazon (Unap) and had years dedicated to the conservation of the Amazon.
His committed work led him to promote and direct the establishment of the Ampiyacu Apayacu Regional Conservation Area in Loreto, a space of more than 400 thousand hectares that now protects hundreds of plant species, as well as amphibians, birds and mammals.
Those who agreed with Cristian Gonzales Tanchiva highlight his dedication and deep commitment to conservation. On more than one occasion, the opportunity for inter-institutional synergy was present. In addition, with him they had been planning actions for the sanitation of the communities located on the Tigre River within the framework of the project "Final impulse for the protection of the indigenous territories of the Peruvian Amazon."
A great loss that we deeply regret.
