Iquitos. The Matsés National Reserve (RNM) located in the province of Requena, Loreto prepares its application to the Green List of the Global Program of Protected Areas of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), recognition that is granted to protected areas that meet the highest conservation standards in the world.
To this end, the National Service of Natural Protected Areas by the State (SERNANP) through the Headquarters of the RNM together with the Wildlife Concervation Society (WSC) and the Center for the Development of the Amazonian Indigenous (CEDIA) developed a training workshop to the technical team responsible for the reserve and thus start the actions to identify the stages, actors and requirements necessary to comply with the standard.
The activity that took place on September 25 of the present, culminated the previous phase of the application process. There is a Roadmap to continue with the next phase (application), for which commitments have been established between the Headquarters of the RNM and the allies.
Among the advantages of belonging to the Green List are the recognition of the effective management of the protected area, greater political support, promotion of tourism, motivation to the managers of the area and finally, the visibility that facilitates agreements for financial sustainability.
