Iquitos. The Executive Commission of the Management Committee (CoG) of the Matsés National Reserve (RNM), a space made up of representatives of native communities and regional public institutions in Loreto, held its first annual meeting on May 24 of this year, in order to to propose activities for the development of the area and the communities involved.
The meeting was held at the facilities of the Center for the Development of the Amazonian Indigenous (CEDIA) North, located in the district of San Juan Bautista, Maynas province, Loreto. The meeting was chaired by Santiago Gómez Valera, manager of the Requena subregion, and Jhancy Segura Tamayo, head of the RNM, with the participation of the vice president of the Matsés Native Community, the Angamos Subregion Management, Requena Regional Production Directorate (DIREPRO- Requena) and coordinators of sectors of the Tapiche Medio, Blanco and Alemán basin.
As next actions, it was proposed to socialize the 2019 Work Plan, hold decentralized meetings in the Puerto Alegre Annex - Gálvez sector and in the Nueva Esperanza Native Community - Tapiche Blanco sector, scheduled for August and October, respectively.
It was also proposed to hold an environmental education talk in the Buenas Lomas Antigua and Buenas Lomas Nuevas annexes to disseminate and strengthen the institutional work of the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP). Likewise, it was agreed that DIREPRO support activities for the formalization of fisheries and the formation of Artisanal Fisheries Surveillance Committees (COVIPA), in the Tapiche-Blanco basin, in order to organize ornamental and consumer fishing.
Finally, the participants received information about the IUCN Green List (International Union for the Conservation of Nature), a process to which the Matsés National Reserve is applying, with the purpose of improving the management of the protected natural area, hoping to obtain results. effective in nature conservation and good governance.
